Animal lovers get satisfaction in this occupation, but aspects of the work can sometimes be unpleasant and physically and emotionally demanding.

Technicians assist veterinarians, biological workers, and other scientists by reforming more routine tasks, freeing them for specialized, complex tasks. They also work in companies that produce drugs and feeds, animal production facilities, zoos, meat packing companies, animal shelters, education, biomedical research, wildlife rehabilitation centers, pharmaceutical, private practice, animal control facilities, spaying and neutering clinics.

Technicians working in private practice in the greater Philadelphia/Kansa/New York area can expect to make between $26,000 initially. Those working in large research facilities, however, may start by earning $28,000-$35,000 per year. In this way, the earning capability of a technician is dependent, in part, upon the area of technology that is pursued.
